Romanian flag
Do you know the colours of the Romanian flag? Did you know that the flag of Romania is described in law and if you are ever caught damaging or defacing the flag of Romania, you will get a stiff fine or even face time in prison. The weird thing about the Romanians is that while they love to fly their flag, and you will see it hanging from flag poles in schools, office buildings and of course government buildings, if you ask a Romanian in which order the colour are, most will get them in the wrong order! Here is the Romanian flag
Romanian law clearly states that the blue end must be the one attached to the flag pole. The colours are described as cobalt blue, chrome yellow and vermilion red. This is similar enough to the Chad flag, with the exception that the blue of the Chad flag is described as Indigo blue, a darker shade of blue. The Romanian government has said it has no plans to change the colour of its flag. The colours of the flag were first seen in the sixteenth century, but where first given the names of Liberty (sky-blue), Justice (field yellow), Fraternity (blood red)during the 1821 Wallachian uprisings. Romanian law state that 'The flag of Romania is always to be hoisted on the buildings and in the headquarters of public authorities and institutions, at the headquarters of political parties, unions, of educational and cultural institutions, on border crossings and in international airports.'. In addition, the flag of Romania may be raised without restrictions by individuals at their domicile or residence, or by legal entities at their headquarters. June the 26th is Romania's National Flag day, as apparently this was when the Decree no. 1 of the Wallachian Provisional Government was issued, making the red-yellow-blue tricolor the national flag. There are very stiff fines for not showing respect to the Romania National flag - so kindly leave them flying and admire them from afar!
