Our Bucharest City Guide
Welcome to our
Bucharest city guide
. We are going to guide you around the different highlights of this great city! Bucharest,
capital of Romania
,is my adopted home town, and it is a great city. As you can see it, is in the South of the country, and an excellent starting point for any holiday in any of the other
. I have written what I have experienced in Bucharest and how this compares to what I have found else where. In general, it is safe to say, despite the noise, dirt and pollution, Romanian cities are still lively and exciting places to live and work in.
. Help us build up our Bucharest city guide by providing us with the best photos you have of Bucharest. The first thing you will find you will need to complete this task is a
map of Bucharest
which can be found in the back of some of the Bucharest city guides found in most pubs, restaurants and hotels for free, or from the small grey metal booths on most main roads. Read here why is it so essential to your success in Romania.
Do visit Herastrau Park, where you can wander around for hours taking in the sights.
The flowers are all well kepts and well watered. There is a little art gallery there, which is full of paintings of Romanian scenes. The ferry boats on the lake make it a wonderful place to take the children. Read and see my page on Herastrau Park. If you are feeling you want to stay in the ultimate of luxury, then our Bucharest city guide would recommend you stay at the
Intercontinental Bucharest Hotel
where you get 5 star treatment, and also benefit from being in the highest hotel in Bucharest. It is centrally located, making it the perfect place to start any explorations of Bucharest.
While you are in Bucharest - some words of advice. The first is that you should resist cycling.
in Bucharest as the bumps, crazy drivers and missing drainage covers will kill you. If not, then you will find that the
weather in Bucharest
will soon encourage you to leave you bicycle at home. It is not a great way to
travel Bucharest
in safety
Here is some more hard one advice to think about... 1. When you
take out your camera
, prepare to have every thief, crook and beggar making a bee-line for you. The oldest trick is another 'tourist' will come and ask for a little money... nothing much - say 10 Ron or 3 euros... the trick is he will then see how much money you have in your wallet and where you hide it... then his Romanian friends will help you lose it. 2. Taxis will rip you off. Always check in three places in a Romanian taxi - the first check is on the door outside. Make sure that it is a low price and that the fare starts with a 1, not a small 7. I have been tricked here, and it is a very expensive mistake to make! The second place to check is on the right hand side of the window, where the amount per km also has to be shown in a type written format. If the metre seems to be going very quickly. Ask to pull over, and pay there and then and get out and find another cab. Don't worry if you do get into an expensive cab - just the once - every - even my Romanian father - in - law who is super careful has been caught out. I have found another great place to check out. Bucuresti What, Where, When is a lifestyle magazine in English for tourists and business people. Important information about the city: news, attractions, business articles, lists of important hotels, restaurants, etc. Free map included. Visit www.bucurestiwww.ro
For a unique chance to look at the art on the underground, jump on any train going between Gard de Nord and 1 mai (M4) and you will be able to see the last of the amazing examples of Romanian graffiti.
For the more bold - your complete
Bucharest vacation.
