Baby comes home

by Peter Fogarty
(Bucharest)

Baby Victor not so happy to be home?

Baby Victor not so happy to be home?

Out of the blue, Victor was allowed home with his mother. I had to get the whole place ready as it had become a little less tidy without my wife keeping an eye on things - I did however have it spotless and waited for her return.

The baby was sleepy and soon we had got everything we needed laid out. Here is a really silly thing - did you know only Romania and Greece cannot order items from Mothercare online - so I had to order the stuff, get it shipped to the UK and then get it couriered out here, because almost nothing of value ever arrives through the post. If you send something you never want to see again - put it in a pocket sized parcel and send it to Romania - I have long thought this would be a perfect solution for getting rid of nuclear waste from the world etc...

An off - duty nurse came to visit us and give us more lessons in how to look after the little one - which was really useful as then Irina, my wife was much more relaxed and happy.

The first night went well - there was me, my wife and my mother in law all on the double bed, not sleeping a wink, with the baby it's own bed in the very centre of the main bed...

When I did go to sleep, I would get a kick to remind me that I really should be checking the baby.

By the morning, I was exhausted!
