Moving to Romania
Not rated yet
You didn't leave an email address, so I thought I would answer the questions here...
My family and I are moving to Romania (Bucharest) in the summer....
As you can see, we come from 3 different generations and 2 different nationalities.
On the left, in traditional Romanian costume is Grandma Ana. She is fierce with her stick and does not allow anyone to misbehave. If you suggest it is time to buy some goats, and have fresh milk on the farm - it is time to duck as an ancient old wooden stick whistles past your ear!
Behind Grandma Ana is Mr Simion. He is the practical one - always fixing, repairing and building new houses, dog kennels or fixing his car. He is the only person I know who was successful in swapping a screw driver for the gear stick in an emergency and getitng the car home safetly.
The tall chap in green is me, Peter Fogarty, who is the British member of the family. If there is a disaster happening in the house, if the dog is in the larder eating the Christmas dinner or someone has heard something quite ridiculous - you can be certain it is me and my Romanian language skills to blame. (I can read and understand Romanian, but speaking it - always a truck load of problems for me!).
In front of me, in red, is Irina Fogarty. She is the daughter of the Romanian part of the family, and responsible for making sure I behave like a perfect Romanian husband. She is amazing. She can speak English and Romanian and is quite happy to hold 2 conversations, one in each language simultaneously. She is the one who introduced me to the real Romania and all its hidden treasures.
The woman in pink is Doina Simion. She is the mother of Irina, the wife of Mr Simion and makes sure I am behaving myself. She is very proud of all her family and has taught me lots of key skills. She loves and looks after us all.
This is my adopted Romanian family and I love them all dearly. This is all I tell you about us. You will see they all appear regularly in the pictures of Romania on this site.
Why did you make this website?
I wanted to introduce everyone to the real Romania
and show them all the treasures hidden outside Romania, which are just waiting to be discovered. Wherever you happen to wander in Romania, you are sure to see wonderful things. All you need to do it ignore any travel book about Romania, and throw yourself into finding out about the country for yourself or even better, get a Romanian guide to show you around... I am happy to offer you one if you don't know any yourself...
I have discovered that the only way one can really understand and appreciate Romania is to travel, eat and sleep with Romanians. The places they go and the things they see are without a doubt special and the typical British or American tourist will leave Romania wondering why it is such a special place.
If you have enjoyed my website or want to know more about us or find a Romanian guide, please drop your questions or comments below and I will answer them for you as quickly as I can!
