Photo Romania at your leisure, a country full of hidden treasures!
Do you want to come and photo Romania? Now is the perfect time to come and explore this land of wonders.
I love Romania in autumn - all it takes is one hard frost and the trees almost instantly seem to gain a whole new set of clothes. This is the proof I need to prove the Romanian trees hold the souls of dead Romanian women, all it takes is a change in the weather and suddenly they have an incredible desire to change their entire wardrobe.
It is now a pleasure to spend my days wandering through the parks and seeing and trying to photo Romania, and its glorious reds, yellows and oranges. There is a whole new feeling in the air, and try as you might, you can't photo Romania and keep the whole experience. However saying that, it is very possible that the photos you do take will be some of the best you have taken in a long time.
A few years ago, before Victor was anything more than a twinkle in his mother's eye and my mother-in-law was fighting fit, we went on a road trip to look at the autumn colours of Romania. We just jumped in the car one day and headed out and stopped in various hotels and bed and breakfasts along the way.
Sitting in a car all day may not sound a lot of fun - however we covered over a thousand kilometers, just to get the next glimpse of the rich autumn colours - stopping to photo Romania as we went along. It was wonderful - Romania has such a mix of trees in their forests - not only spruce - so when to stop and look at the scene, you do always seem to see a tree in complete contrast to the other trees and screaming to be photoed.
This is the last real Road trip we took without any major worries and so every autumn as the same season comes around, we still dream of the days without worry.
While we were on this road trip, I was able to continue my second passion - a really stupid habit I have started having in Romania. I collect Romania brandy glasses. Every house, especially in the countryside, has lots - yet they are no longer made and the ones that are made are made of a much thicker, lower quality glass - perfect to give as gifts or to the workers but not to collect. I found one in an old antique shop - in the center of a touristic area, which cost me 4 pounds for one glass. On leaving the town, I saw a dirty old gypsy, with a table laid out - full of glassware and of course my elusive glasses - here I could by them at a fraction of the price. However to get the best deals - never go to a stall like this - send a Romanian friend and you will get the Romanian price. So these are my real mementoes of my autumn road trip - and these remind me of when I tried to photo Romania.
The other place I have taken great autumn photos are from Lintesti - my granny's farm. All around her home are woods that spread out in all directions for kilometers at a time. While walk the dog, I go out armed with my camera to try and capture how I feel and all I am seeing.
The best photos here must be the close up shots of the different fruits on the bushes - such as red, dew speckled rose hips and the amazing number of different colours of mushrooms.
The dog goes completely wild at this time of year, as she has learnt how to swim in a most amusing way, though the fallen beech tree leaves. It is normally about this moment that she will pick up the scent of some poor, unsuspecting deer and be off like a shot - despite the screams and shouts of everyone she is convinced she has taken out for a walk - as in our family it is certain that the dog walks me - rather than the other way around!
I have dug out some of my best autumn photos to share them with you while I have a moment. If you have any great photos of this season, I would really love to see them and share them with the ever-growing numbers of people who love looking at pictures of Romania in autumn.
